Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect from my first appointment?
Give yourself plenty of time to find the office, park and get situated. The first appointment is mostly an assessment appointment. We'll go over the consent form, your reasons for seeking therapy, your goals for therapy, a bit about your history, and what encouraged you to take this step now. I like to make sure that clients leave with some useful information at the end of every session whether that is something to reflect on or a strategy to try between appointments.
I encourage you to dress comfortably, and bring a bottle of water and something to take notes on if you would like to.
How do I prepare for a session?
To prepare for counselling with a registered psychologist, simply come with openness and curiosity to learn more about your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. You may wish to reflect on your goals for therapy—whether related to anxiety, your traumatic experiences, relationships, or how you'd like to grow. But you don’t need to have everything figured out. Therapy is a collaborative process. We will work together to gain insights, learn emotional regulation skills, and creating meaningful change. The process is the same whether you attend in-person in Calgary or online across Alberta.
